VCIR 2010 – BioVantage
BioVantage - Clean Water Naturally
BioVantage Resources is at the forefront of cost-effective, “green” solutions for wastewater remediation. The BioVantage system replaces decades-old open mechanical aeration and mixing technology and can enhance non-aerated lagoons with a solution – grounded in a thorough understanding of the biology of natural digestion of waste – which uses a symbiotic combination of algae and bacteria to process municipal, industrial or agricultural waste. BioVantage’s algae micro-production systems can increase the efficacy of wastewater lagoon systems: significantly reducing energy requirements and upfront costs; increasing remediation of pollutants; reducing green house gas and noxious gas emissions (bringing lagoons into compliance with EPA mandated targets); and reducing odors.
BioVantage accelerates mother nature. By introducing high concentrations of naturally occurring strains of algae into aeration lagoons, oxygen levels can be increased significantly promoting the growth of bacteria. Together, the algae and bacteria accelerate remediation. Unlike mechanical systems, algae also consume excess nutrients from the wastewater (which are now recognized pollutants), disinfect pathogens, and significantly reduce the remaining sludge (a costly residual of the process). Reclaimed water can be used for irrigation, returned to rivers/lakes, or used for drinking water (with additional processing). Over time, BioVantage envisions harvesting the algae for use in biofuels or other applications.
BioVantage sells its algae production systems to water treatment solution providers as an adjunct system for small to mid-sized lagoon systems. The company is partnering with environmental engineering firms to go to market in 2010 as a part of an integrated lagoon upgrade solution, leveraging existing sales channels and relationships with municipalities. Further applications and sales channels will follow.
